Accommodation in the Lake District

Derwent Hostel

Derwentwater Hostel is a magnificent mansion in the Borrowdale valley. Idyllically situated by the shores of the lake with a stunning backdrop of woodland and mountains. This 220 year old mansion stands in its 17 acre grounds, with an impressive 108ft waterfall, woodland and a large grass play area. The hostel is a listed building and has preserved the original features including fine plasterwork ceilings and grand marble fireplaces. This is a fantastic area for outdoor pursuits. Borrowdale is a renowned valley for climbing for both beginners and the more advanced. For the water enthusiast, there is canoeing, yachting, windsurfing and dragon or Viking boating in Derwent Water and the River Derwent. Mountain bikers are spoilt for choice with the Whinlatter forestry commission special routes or local classics such as the "Borrowdale Bash". There is no better area for walking with a wide variety of high and low level walks. Just two and a half miles away is Keswick, the main centre for the Northern Lake District. It is a bustling and attractive market town and has many amenities for visitors. Derwentwater Youth Hostel is an excellent base for exploring the Lake District with the lakes of Bassenthwaite, Buttermere, Crummock Water, Grasmere, Loweswater, Rydal Water, Thirlmere, Ullswater and Windermere all within 20 miles.
